It’s a sad day in Leafs Nation when the biggest news is a non-trade.

TTC Subway Photo

July 25, 2010 Leave a comment

I was standing around in a Toronto Subway station waiting for the train, and playing with my digital camera. I started taking pictures of the advertisements on the wall. When the train came, I snapped a picture of the front of the train as it came into the station. The picture was unremarkable and poorly lit, so I deleted it.

After, I got onto the train, the conductor came on the PA system and made an announcement. “Riders, if you’re going to take photos of the train as it comes into the station, please please please give us some signal so we can make sure our hair is combed!”

A TTC driver that makes humour out of being photographed. Now there’s a surprise.

Today’s earthquake was kind of unnerving.

At first I thought something was seriously wrong with the office’s HVAC system or something.

When my monitor didn’t start shaking, I got a little worried. But still, now I know what a small earthquake feels like.

Experience Pays, And Failure Drives You To Improvement (in Driving!)

Just today I avoided the same kind of car accident that stung me almost two years ago to the day.

I was in a grocery store parking lot, trying to leave, and someone was carelessly backing out of a parking spot. This time around, I was obsessively checking all around me as I waited for traffic to clear, so I was quick on the horn to warn the one driver who almost backed into me.

An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure. Fantastic.

A New Low For Canada Computers

January 23, 2010 3 comments

I showed up at the local Mississauga Canada Computers location this morning at about 10:35 AM.

Both the store signage and website state that they open at 10 AM on Saturdays. But the store was closed, dark, bars covering the entrance with apparently nobody inside.

Even though CC is not a “boutique” store, I think this is a very low-quality move, even for them.

Crime and Safety in Toronto

December 29, 2009 Leave a comment

Despite the various rambling threads about safety in Toronto, the fact is that all kinds of things go down in this city.

Earlier this month, my cousin was actually car-jacked in Toronto by a gun-toting crack-smoker who forced him to drive around for an hour and make Interac purchases so he could get the Interac cash-back money.

Scary stuff.
